NHS Low Income Scheme

Some people on a low income may qualify for help with NHS charges via the NHS Low Income Scheme (LIS).  Entitlement is based on your circumstances, such as your level of income, savings, etc. If you qualify, it could help you pay for your prescriptions as well as other NHS charges.

How to apply

To apply for the NHS Low Income Scheme you need to fill in an HC1 form (Claim for Help with Health Costs) giving details of your circumstances and then send it off in the prepaid envelope provided to the NHS Business Services Authority.

Download the HC1 form or order online

You can also obtain an HC1 claim form from Jobcentre Plus offices or most NHS hospitals.  Your doctor, dentist or optician may be able to give you this form too, or you can call 0300 123 0849.
