Prescription Prepayment Certificates (PPC) can be obtained in England. The certificate will cover the cost of all your prescriptions during a particular period. It may be worth doing this if you don’t qualify for an exemption certificate and pay for more than 3 prescriptions in three months or more than thirteen in a year.
A PPC costs £29.65 for 3 months and £105.90 for 12 months (March 2020). You can pay for a PPC by 10 monthly direct debit instalments which means that you could obtain all the prescriptions you need for just over £2 per week.
Apply for a PPC
- buy a PPC online (pay by debit card or credit card)
- call 0300 330 1341 (pay by debit card or credit card)
- apply at your local pharmacy (not available by direct debit but you can pay by cheque or postal order)
If you pay a prescription charge whilst waiting for a Prescription Prepayment Certificate to be issued, you can get a refund but this depends on the length of the PPC and when and how circumstances change.
